What’s your story Jack?
I started at IC Blue in November 2017. This was during my sixth form education, but I wasn’t enjoying college and decided I’d prefer to earn whilst learning. So I joined as a business administration apprentice. I was Young, even for an apprentice as I came during college instead of at the end, but I was always made to feel welcome by my colleagues and never felt out of place.
I was placed in an administration role with a senior salesperson and learnt the basics of the industry and some intricacies of the company. Once I was in a strong position with my knowledge and ability, I started working with my own portfolio of clients in sales, but after trying my hand in other areas of the business, I later found that I was better suited to a role in the purchasing department, which is where I’m working now as a Global Buyer.
It’s a dynamic role, and no two days are exactly the same. It is hard but rewarding work, and the purchasing department have built a real team environment together.
Through my whole journey with the company, there has been the flexibility and understanding to ensure that my job role matches my personality in the best way possible.
What’s your favourite thing about working at IC Blue?
“The team environment in the purchasing department, everyone works together and supports each other as much as possible.”
What’s your story Ben?
“I began my apprenticeship with IC Blue shortly after leaving Sixth Form college. I had a strong interest in Finance so I took on an AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) course while working at IC Blue.
General administration and simple tasks were my daily bread and butter that helped me create a solid base of experience. I was able to build on this experience and used it to take on greater responsibility and deepen my role within IC Blue.
The exams involved in AAT were a challenge for me, but my colleagues and the company as a whole was willing to help and persevere alongside me.
After becoming fully qualified in 2019, I now have many more responsibilities, including AP (Accounts Payable), payroll and credit control.
As the company has grown so have I and I now find myself training and managing a new generation of apprentices under me. “
What’s your favourite thing about working at IC Blue?
“I most enjoy how well I get along with my colleagues in a social setting. There’s never any awkward moments in the office, and getting together in our rec-room with a pint is always a lot of laughs!”
What’s your story Dwaine?
“I started at IC blue back in 2010 as a warehouse operative. I Had just finished University and needed a quick job to help me pay the bills. I was surprised to discover that the people in the business were cool to work with. It had a real family feel that made me feel very comfortable.
After 18 Months the directors realised that there were other roles in the business where I might be more suited and as the company was growing rapidly, I joined our fledgling purchasing department. This sort of commercial role was not something I had ever really considered but I discovered that my time in the warehouse and logistics department had given me an insight into the purchasing that others did not have. It helped me develop other business systems tied into purchasing and logistics like order tracking that have proved invaluable to the business.
I now head up a buying department of 6 people with a yearly spend of over 10 million. Challenges come thick and fast, especially through the current semiconductor crisis but we meet these head-on as a team and consistently deliver solutions, smash targets and beat the competition.”
What’s your favourite thing about working at IC Blue?
“What has kept me at IC Blue for so long is my relationship with senior management who I have always felt had my best interests at heart.”
What’s your story Antonio?
I have started at IC Blue LTD in October 2014, and it has been a really rewarding journey for me. I came from an hospitality back ground and moved to the UK from Australia in April 2014. Initially I was managing an Italian restaurant and I had already in mind a change of career using my languages skills.
The main reason for that was to be able to spend time with my son and working in a restaurant meant working every weekend so it would have been very difficult to find time to spend with him.
I came across an opportunity with IC Blue LTD and even though my salary at the time was half on what I was earning as a Restaurant Manager I saw an opportunity. That decision was the right one – I was exceeding my previous income after just 1yr of the career change.
I started my journey at IC Blue for the Italian market along another Italian colleague, which started the Italian market for IC Blue in 2013, and within the first year I was already hitting and exceeding my targets driven by my hunger to succeed and to really make this work for me in the long run.
With the support from everyone at IC Blue and hard work I am still here today and consistently one of the top performers within the company and have established IC Blue LTD as a significant player in the Italian market.
What’s your favourite thing about working at IC Blue?
“I love the social events, especially the BBQ’s by the river.”
